Okay, so full disclosure, the "Black Widow isn't actually an NPC" twist? That was a bait. The "main" twist was always meant to be "Pepper is evil".
More details to follow.

...wait, isn't that canon to the films?
*dodges incoming thrown produce*
I kid, I kid! I'm interested where this is going. It does bring up part of why I dislike alignments, though. If you need a game that has
role-playing, they're handy. Or when you specifically have a setting where there's a Good versus Evil (capital "G" and "E") dynamic, and certain powers in the game cannot operate properly unless this division exists. I just like systems where you can customize how your character thinks and acts a bit more, and allow a little more "grey" to play in. Pepper's obsession with the bottom line, for example, works for a Lawful Good character. Hiring Vanko still might work with a Lawful Neutral. It is just the bottom line, the company's profitability, is (self?) justified because of the potential good the company can do and/or the good of its employees, investors, and (maybe) customers.
I mean, even as a weapon's company, seems like Stark's technological achievements can benefit other industries... but I also don't have a problem with weapon manufacturing in general, so maybe I cannot be trusted about this. XD

Yeah, alignment's... tricky. And I feel like quite a bit of it depends on what your table/GM makes of it.
For my mindset, a lot of the Good vs. Neutral vs. Evil comes down to what you're willing to do to get what you want, although obviously wiggle room applies. "Good" generally means "I am willing to sacrifice what I want to help someone else out", and Evil generally means "I will throw you under the metaphorical or literal bus to advance my own agenda", and where you land on the scale depends on how far you're willing to go with that and what your goals are. Again, not a perfect system, but that's at least the first step in my mental flow chart.
Hopefully the "why" of Pepper/Gwyneth qualifying as Evil (and by my reckoning they both are, although part of that's because I have more of Gwyneth's character planned out than anyone else has access to XD) becomes a tad more apparent as things go on, but if not, alas. Just something to work on for next time.

Without bogging things down with a lot of both game and real-world morality talk, the upside of readers like me is that you don't have to work hard to convince me a particular character is "Evil". ;)

Bravo, TheScarletTroll. I doubt anybody saw this one coming. You truly deserve a clap and a half.
However, know that this will now encourage me to share every single one of my epileptic tree theories.
Theory #1: Bert from legal will end up becoming Mysterio in an unlikely series of events, involving being fired by Pepper, being banned from the MIT campus, narrowly escaping New York and Sokovia, having his plane delayed by that pesky Avengers battle, and one of those spinny kaleidoscope things.

Thank you, I appreciate it! I've honestly been kind of biting my nails waiting for this part of the chapter to start, I hope the twist's integrity holds up as it goes on.
Total honesty, I actually don't have anything else planned for Bert from legal. Obviously Far From Home is a loooooooong ways out, but I'll fully admit the twists I have planned currently for that one (because it's Mysterio, there HAVE to be twists) skew more towards the "Black Widow" side of the surprise spectrum than this.
Not sure how often I'll comment on far-reaching theories, but that one is really good, and I wanted to let you down early that I am NOT that clever. XD

You have opened the floodgates, and there's no turning back. Epileptic Tree Theories will appear on every page (from now)
