Okay, I'm gonna get on my soapbox here for a moment. Bluff is and should always be a completely legitimate skill to use against other players. If you think that a Rogue or Bard shouldn't be able to "tell your character what to think"? Well, I think you shouldn't be able to tell someone their deceitful character isn't good at lying, especially if you didn't give your character the Sense Motive skill ranks to reflect their apparent paranoia. It's utterly ridiculous to say NPC's can fool players, but other players can't. Now Diplomacy, on the other hand, should absolutely not be allowed, as that IS telling another character what to think and could be absolutely broken in the wrong hands.

So... yeah, I agree. In general, I dislike mechanics that distinguish between PC and NPC without a good reason, and if someone cannot manipulate me socially, why can they manipulate me physically or mentally? "Mentally" in this case referring to supernatural abilities which influence or control the mind, not what we would mean in real world terms (...that's included in "socially").

Now, there might be standards as to when it should happen, but that's a separate discussion. I'll settle for just arguing that it ought to be a "thing" in general, first.
