Marvel's Disney+ Day Announcements

12th Nov 2021, 6:54 PM
It's funny, ever since I started this comic every Marvel rumor/announcement/release fills me with a weird combination of anticipatory hype and creeping dread. On the one hand, I don't want to jinx anything or come off as super-full of myself presuming that there's going to be any major continued interest in reading this comic in the however many years it's going to take me just to get through Phase Three. But on the other hand, I do have at least a basic outline for just about every project that's currently out, and honestly, seeing how far out in advance I can connect the dots has been a lot of fun. Still, some of their more off the wall announcements tend to elicit a reaction of "Oh man that's super-cool!" followed by "Oh man how the actual hell is that gonna work?!?". To wit, my increasingly panicked reaction to all of Marvel's Disney+ announcements today went something to the tune of:

--> Marvel: ECHO
--> Me: Oh, that's official then? Guess she's gonna need to be a PC. No problem, Hawkeye comes out soon, I can figure this out.
--> Marvel: AGATHA HOUSE OF HARKNESS
--> Me: Okay, that one was trade-confirmed a while ago, already have the Wandavision outline mostly adjusted...
--> Marvel: MARVEL ZOMBIES
--> Me: Echhhhhhhhhhhhhh, alright, I kinda had What If figured out, I think I can spin this one out into something possibly-
--> Marvel: SPIDER-MAN FRESHMAN YEAR
--> Me: Aggggggh, this is a prequel? But I already... I thought No Way Home was going to be the pain in the-
--> Marvel: X-MEN 97
--> Me: ... Nope. I ain't even think I'm touching that one. But maybe-NO. STOP IT. GET TO PHASE TWO, THEN WE'LL TALK.

Anyways, there wasn't really much of an underlying point to this whole thing, now that I've realized blog posts are a thing I just figured "hey this might be a halfway funny thing that doesn't give away too many future plans. Definitely not anything in the immediate future". Hopefully it is that thing. Anyways, thanks for reading, feel free to comment and let me know what you thought about the announcements.

Yeah, I tend to be filled with mostly dread, but a little anticipation myself. I didn't even think about what this could do to you, sorry. XP

Once the MCU did Thanos dirty - I lloathe how they fundamentally changed his character and motives - my interest began to way. I was a big X-Men fanboy in the 90s, but now I sound like the older fans who complained to me about how the late 80s/early 90s changed the series direction. XP

Anyway, good luck with adjusting! I fear you'll need it.

Oh, it's all good! I appreciate the sympathy, but I 100% meant for this to be taken as comedic. Because it really is absurd that my brain has now gotten into a pattern of "We'd better start making plans for this right the hell now or we are going to regret it. IN TEN YEARS OR MORE PROBABLY." every single time I watch a new release or Marvel announces a new project. Either way, I'm sure it'll be fine. As an intelligent (but not wise) man once said, "Everything's gonna work out exactly the way it's supposed to."

I'll admit, I'm fascinated by the idea that Thanos could be anyone's last straw in terms of source material faithfulness. Not only because they've changed so many other things before then, but because I genuinely think well-intentioned but still clearly egocentric madman works way better as a serious character than "I have a tier 3 sub to Mistress Death's Twitch account BUT SHE WON'T ADD ME TO HER DISCORD SERVER" comics Thanos.

I've more or less accepted that the MCU is more geared towards being its own kind of Ultimate Marvel (not an adaptation of that so much as an reinvention of the mythos for a wider audience, if that makes sense), but I do get the sentiment because for every "Yeah, I guess making Mar-Vell into a lady DOES better fit the themes of legacy they're going for with this franchise" and "Okay, just because they've promoted Michelle to love interest does NOT mean she will supplant MJ in the comics, it's fine" there's still the occasional moment where I find myself rolling my eyes at a particularly bad take. Like most of Thor from Ragnarok onwards. Or Taskmaster.

Buuuuuut I'm not really looking to open up a whole other can of worms, at least not yet, so I'll leave it there. And thank you for the luck, it's definitely welcomed!

Heh, well, you know us fanboys. Even we recovering fanboys tend to take such things far too seriously. "Recovering" as it has been about two decades since I could consider myself a serious fan of Marvel comics. Still, I'd like to address some of your... confusion as to my position.

Seriously, if you saw this before I edited it, I felt the need to go into why I felt the way I did. I'll spare you that... much I will emphasize Thanos being the last straw, and that just when I was thinking I should give the MCU another chance, they did my boy Taskmaster dirty. =/

I mean, if you're worried about No Way Home, you could have the Raimi and Webb movies show up in the interludes instead of just Deadpool.
