The weird invasive retinal scanner is something that fascinates me in this movie, because the only thing I feel like we can safely say is that Loki wouldn't have gotten it from Thanos, since they wouldn't have known there was a need for a retinal scan before sending Loki to Earth.
Not everyone in Loki's entourage is from S.H.I.E.L.D. (as Barton points out in the movie, they have no shortage of enemies), so it's possible it came from whatever criminal groups they recruited from. Or it could be it's actually a S.H.I.E.L.D. tool and its arguably excessive nature is a nice foreshadowing of the HYDRA reveal.
In any case, I think the nuttiest thing is that this is another fascinating piece of tech that never really comes up again.
Given how many spy movies have "Retinal scans" I have no trouble believing a spy organization like SHIELD would build such a device I especially believe the comic version of SHIELD would do it
Oh yeah, comics S.H.I.E.L.D. 100%, especially if Maria Hill was in charge. I just figure they might want something a little less inconspicuous than the eyeball-destroyer we see here. XD
I genuinely have no recollection of this part of the movie, nor why they needed to steal something from Germany. I know it exists cause there's a youtube clip, but really it's just gone from my mind.
The next page kind of touches on it (or at least namedrops the thing they need) but in an earlier scene of the movie Selvig stated that they needed iridium for the portal generator.
Since the scene would have just been Liam talking to Kevin-controlled minions and it comes up again later anyways, it felt a little redundant to leave it in. So I took it out, this is already shaping up to be a decently long chapter.
I'd be inclined to give some for it, personally. It's not the most graceful of puns, but the sheer audacity of going for three in one sentence is worth it to me. XD
